Speaker Bio:

Jim Reece has been the Recycling Coordinator and HHW Program Manager for Okaloosa County for 29 years.  The program manages HHW and CESQG waste from Okaloosa County as well as nine neighboring counties through Cooperative Arrangement Grants with Florida DEP providing services, via fixed and mobile collections, to over a half million residents.  Additionally, his office has worked with FDEP to provide disposal of unused chemicals for farmers/growers through Operation Cleansweep and for local schools through the SC3 School Chemical Cleanout Campaign.  Jim is a member of Recycle Florida Today (RFT) and is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).

Abstract:

Presentation will focus on:

• Funding sources for program operational expenses
• Cooperative arrangements with neighboring counties
• CESQG Waste Collection
• Support for removal of Cancelled, Suspended, and Unused Pesticides
• Support inventory of school chemistry lab chemicals and disposal
• Innovative approaches to materials management
• Expansion of services from part time to full time
• Partnering with other governmental agencies to cut costs
